Leinster to crown 2018’s star performers

-

LEINSTER Golf will recognise this year’s outstanding performers when it presents its Order of Merit awards during next Monday’s Annual Delegates Meeting at Carton House.

International Caolan Rafferty, who captured his maiden senior championship in July by winning the South of Ireland at Lahinch, edged out Rowan Lester for the Leinster Senior Order of Merit following another consistent campaign to retain his status as Leinster’s number one player.

Kilkenny’s Mark Power took the Under 21 award as he reached the last four at Lahinch and finished second in the East of Ireland at Baltray while Royal Dublin’s Max Kennedy won the Under 18 award.

A member of the winning Leinster Boys team in the Interprovincial matches, Kennedy was runner-up in both the Leinster and Munster Boys championships and a member of the Boys Home Internationals team that finished second at Royal Dornoch.

Roganstown’s Joshua McCabe won the Under 16 Order of Merit from Seapoint’s Dylan Keating after a hugely consistent campaign while there was also success for Laytown & Bettystown’s Daniel Mulligan as he took the Under 14 Order of Merit.

Mulligan joined fellow Laytown and Bettystown players such as Des Smyth, Declan Branigan and the Wickham sisters, Carol and Philomena, as the winner of a major amateur championship with his 11-stroke win in the Irish U14 Boys Amateur Open at Mullingar.
