Hyundai and KIA issue corrected figures for electric range of models
BOTH Hyundai and KIA have issued a correction to the official Worldwide Harmonised Light Vehicle Test Procedure (WLTP) combined-driving range for their latest electric cars.
In Hyundai’s case, the Kona electric SUV 39kWh model is to be recalculated with a 289km range.
The 64kWh version will now be on 449kms, the company says.
Meanwhile, Kia Motors Europe has published a correction to its WLTP driving range figures for the e-Niro, which, incidentally, I expect to be driving and reporting on for you next week.
It previously calculated the e-Niro range was 485km for the 64 kWh version and 312km for the standard (39.2 kWh) battery pack.
The e-Niro’s new WLTP range is now 455km for the long-range model and 289 kilometres for the standard version.
By way of explanation, KIA said the e-Niro was one of the first cars tested under the new WLTP rules.
It added: “In carrying out the new tests, the independent organisation overseeing the process accidentally provided an incorrect testing methodology and then approved the results it generated.
“This led to the e-Niro being tested for a disproportionate length of time on the urban cycle, resulting in an overestimation of the vehicle’s allelectric range.”
