Dancing shoes: Dub Denis kicks off boots for star show

- Sorcha O’Connor

DUBLIN footballer Denis Bastick is swapping the pitch for the dancefloor as the seventh celebrity to be added to the line-up of ‘Dancing with the Stars’.

The five-time All-Ireland champion thinks the move into a world of glitz and glam will be a challenge

– but one the competitive sportsman is well up for.

However, he admitted taking part in the alldancing, all-sparkling RTÉ show was not something that crossed his mind when he hung up his Dublin jersey in 2017. Denis admitted he was feeling “slightly overwhelmed” but thought his fitness from football might stand to him on the dancefloor.

“I really feel that this will be a great experience for me. It is completely different to anything I have ever done before,” he said. “Since retiring from Dublin football I always wanted to try new things – I never imagined that this would be one of those things though.

“Football has given me a huge sense of accomplishment and ‘Dancing with the Stars’ is now presenting me with a massive challenge and the opportunity to accomplish something that is in such contrast to what I’m used to.”

“I am slightly overwhelmed at the task in hand, having seen what the dancers can do,” he continued.

“They have amazing athleticism, rhythm and coordination. I have probably one of those qualities so I will really need to put the work in.”
