Six birdies at Castlemartyr sees Sugrue score a hat-trick
DOOKS’ Dan Sugrue made it three wins from as many starts when he made six birdies in a five-under 67 to capture the Munster PGA’s Winter Series outing at Castlemartyr Resort.
The Killarney native (40) went out in 32 thanks to birdies at the fourth, sixth, eighth and ninth.
He picked up another shot at the 12th and bounced back from his only dropped shot of the day at the 13th with a birdie at the 15th to come home in 35.
He finished three strokes ahead of Douglas professional David Barry, Limerick’s
Tim Rice and Killarney Golf and Fishing Club’s Cormac Flannery as they posted twounder 70s.
Dan Sugrue, John Sugrue and Rice had 13 birdies between them to win the team event by three points from Gary Howie, Padraig McGrath and Mark Collins.
The next outing will be a fundraising Pro-Am for PGA pro Ian St John at Faithlegg House on December 13.
Organised by Ted Higgins, a field of 80 professionals and amateurs will tee it up to help the popular former head
professional at Rush Golf Club, who as diagnosed with spinal cancer in 2016.
