Bonus-point victory for Cork Constitution

-

ALL-IRELAND LEAGUE ROUND-UP SECOND-HALF tries from Jason Higgins and replacement Patrick Casey steered Division 1A leaders Cork Constitution to a 34-14 bonus-point win over bottom side Terenure College at Lakelands Park.

The game took place on an allweather pitch, with Constitution recovering from Joe McSwiney’s early sin-binning to lead 20-7 at half time. Two Aidan Moynihan penalties were supplemented by Gavin Duffy’s try and a penalty try.

Matthew Byrne’s try proved only a late consolation score. Scrum half Higgins touched down off another lineout drive, and prop Casey rounded off a counter attack for his second try in as many games.

Lansdowne ended 2018 with a 17-6 win at Dublin University. Ian Prendiville’s first league try, in his 102nd appearance, the highlight.

Munster Academy starlet Ben Healy curled over a last-minute penalty as Garryowen edged out UCC 14-12 at the Mardyke.

Jake Flannery did all the scoring in Shannon’s 9-8 defeat of UCD while Brian Deeny scored his first league try from the back row as Clontarf overcame Young Munster 17-11 at Greenfields.

In Division 1B, St Mary’s College still lead despite their 20-9 loss at Old Wesley. City of Armagh struck for a 78th-minute penalty try in a 15-14 triumph at Banbridge. Ballynahinch defeated Malone 11-7. Ballymena had a 27-22 success at Buccaneers, while Old Belvedere left Naas with a 10-8 victory.
