Davey confirms return for new season ahead of Dubs’ bid for three-in-a-row

DUBLIN ladies football manager Mick Bohan has been handed a major boost with the news that Lyndsey Davey is to return to the squad as the Dubs chase a third All-Ireland title in a row.

Davey had admitted she was considering retirement in the wake of last year’s All-Ireland success, citing the rise in the time required to play at the top level since she first joined the panel in 2004.

“There is a point in time when you have to look back and see how long can you keep going for. There is a point when your body starts finding it difficult to recover and things get that little bit harder,” she said.

However, she confirmed that she will be available for 2019 as she goes in search of a fourth All-Ireland medal.

“I was speaking to Mick, he is a very persuasive man,” she smiled. “And you obviously want to play for as long as you can. There is a few things coming up with work that you have to juggle around but that’s how it goes.

“But he is very understanding when it comes to work stuff. His concern is you are mentally and physically in the right position and just take it one step at a time.”

Davey has lost five All-Ireland finals in her career and admits the prospect of winning three in a row was too good to walk away from.

“It would obviously a great goal for the team but like I said you park last year and you start fresh. That’s a long way away. You get back to the drawing board now.”
