Tributes to Kennedy

-

FORMER Ireland midfielder Mick Kennedy has passed away at the age of 57.

Manchester-born Kennedy won two caps at senior level under Jack Charlton in the 1986 Triangular Tournament in Iceland, but could not force his way back into the squad in the golden era that followed.

Kennedy was playing with Portsmouth at the time, and Pompey fans and former team-mates led the tributes yesterday.

He was inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame last year, with his four-year stay the highlight of a career which featured spells with 10 different league outfits.

After football Kennedy moved to Clare – his parents’ home – and lived a quiet life in Ennistymon.
