Kingdom rivals relieved to get second chance

- CORN UÍ MHUIRÍ FINAL:

ST BRENDAN’S and Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne will meet again next Saturday after this Corn Uí Mhuirí final finished level at Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney.

Both team managers were relieved after admitting their teams failed to perform. PS Chorca Dhuibhne boss Eamonn Fitzmaurice was happy to get a second chance. “Both teams worked very hard and maybe when both teams look back at the game will say, we can do better when we have the ball ourselves. I would say there were times when our build-up play was too slow,” he said.

His St Brendan’s counterpart Gary McGrath was of a similar mindset. “The occasion might have got to the players. We have been starting very slowly all year in our games and again today. We were very disappointed at kicking only two points in good conditions in the opening half,” he said.

Behind by 0-5 to 0-2 at the break, St Brendan’s outscored their opponents by 1-5 to 0-3 in the third quarter – Emmet O’Shea struck the goal – to move 1-7 to 0-8 in front but the champions from Dingle are made of stern stuff.

Pobalscoil hit back with three in a row before Ruaidhrí Ó Beaglaoích had the final say on 55 minutes.
