Nicky nicks it at Old Conna
DUN Laoghaire’s Nicky Murray snatched victory in the Leinster Ladies Alliance outing at Old Conna.
The eight-handicapper had 34 points to edge out Stackstown’s Mairead Cronin (8) and Newland’s Mags O’Connell (6) over the last nine in the fourth singles outing of the season.
Laytown and Bettystown’s Phil O’Gorman, who plays off four, matched O’Connell with 28 points to win the gross after a countback.
There was no luck for the Alliance in their sixth challenge match of the season, however, as the lost 3-2 to a Powerscourt team led by Captain Billy Finn and club manager, Gavin Hunt.
The final challenge match
will also take place in Powerscourt Golf Club on March 24 when the Munster Ladies Alliance travels to Wicklow to take on their Leinster counterparts.
Old Conna’s Marie Sudway will take on Hermitage’s Mary Duane at Dun Laoghaire in the Leinster Ladies Alliance Matchplay Final next month as Sheena McElroy (Grange)
and Paula Murray (Naas) face Penny Gleeson (Milltown) and Fionnuala Halpin (Dun Laoghaire) in the foursomes final at Castle.
The penultimate singles of the season will take place at Woodbrook on March 11 before the season concludes with captain Fionnuala Halpin’s Prize at Dun Laoghaire on March 29.
