O’Riordan puts CBC in cruise control

- Denis Hurley MUNSTER SCHOOLS SENIOR CUP SEMI-FINAL

CBC ran in seven tries at Irish Independent Park yesterday as they saw off Ardscoil Rís to book a place in the final of the Munster Schools Senior Cup.

Last year’s runners-up featured seven of the squad from last year’s final and they controlled the action from the off, with three tries inside the opening 10 minutes.

They had a try from Harry Riordan inside two minutes, with Cian Hurley adding another four minutes later. When O’Riordan got in for his second and Billy Cain notched his second conversion, they were 19-0 to the good.

Ardscoil got off the mark as Daniel Okeke touched down following a good move from a scrum, but Christians replied through Aaron Leahy for a 24-5 lead.

On the half-hour, Alex Long got Ardscoil’s second try, but just before half-time Cain crossed over for CBC’s fifth try, which he converted for a 31-12 interval lead.

Just after the restart, he added a long-range penalty before replacement Dylan McAuliffe added their sixth try. Out-half Cian Whooley rounded things off before he himself converted as the game petered out amid a mass of replacements.

CBC advance to the final on St Patrick’s Day as they seek to add to their joint-record tally of 29 victories. They share that honour with city rivals PBC, who today face Bandon Grammar School in the other semi. CBC –
