Model ‘composure’ key

WEXFORD manager Paul McLoughlin was delighted with the way his side held out for a single-point victory at Innovate Wexford Park.

“We defended very well into the strong wind in the second half, kept our composure and moved the ball well,” he said.

Limerick had a chance to level deep into added time but Seán McSweeney sent a mark wide from 20 metres. Earlier it looked like McSweeney would be his side’s saviour after scoring 1-1 off the bench.

It was 0-10 to 0-5 for Wexford at half-time, and a brace of points apiece from the impressive Conor Devitt and Jonathan Bealin made it 0-14 to 0-8 with 14 minutes left.

They were fortunate to hold on, though, with the outcome giving them back-to-back league wins for the first time in McLoughlin’s two-year reign.
