Hazy sun to deliver a warm and dry Easter weekend
ALMOST every corner of the country should get its turn to bask in the sun this weekend, according to Met Éireann.
By 4pm yesterday, hazy sunshine had the mercury soaring to an unseasonably warm 21C at the Casement weather station in south Co Dublin.
The same temperatures were recorded at weather stations at Shannon Airport, Claremorris, Co Mayo, Athenry, Co Galway, and Finner Camp, Co Donegal, yesterday afternoon.
And the good news is the same conditions are set to continue today, said Met Éireann forecaster Deirdre Lowe.
Leinster will enjoy sunshine today with daytime highs of 21C across much of the province.
However, coastal areas will be a bit more breezy, nudging the mercury down to between 16C and 19C, she said.
“It all depends on where you live,” Ms Lowe told the Irish Independent.
It may be a bit too breezy for a day at the beach in areas subject to onshore breezes, she added. But it will still be a warm and pleasant day in most areas, she said.
Fog and mist were expected to feature overnight last night in many areas, especially in the west and midlands.
But it should burn off as the day progresses today leading to a warm, dry and pleasant day in most areas with daytime highs of between 17C and 22C.
The only exception is the north-west, which can expect clouds and some drizzle.
But temperatures will still be mild, hovering between 15C and 16C.
Easter Sunday will remain dry in most areas, with spells of hazy sunshine in the east and midlands and daytime highs of between 15C and 20C.
But increasing clouds are set to bring some spotty rain to coastal areas in the west, south-west and north-west by the evening or overnight.
The outlook for Easter Monday remains good, although temperatures will dip to the mid to high teens in most areas as winds pick up, Ms Lowe said.
However, it will still be unseasonably warm, with highs ranging between 14C and 19C, with the best values expected to be in the east, she said.
