IRELAND RATINGS DANIEL McDONNELL
6 DARREN RANDOLPH
As Mick McCarthy observed, the goalkeeper didn’t have a save to make. He was alert to tip one effort over the bar when it turned out that a foul had already been given.
7 SHANE DUFFY
An impressive showing seeing as his preparation was interrupted, with one incident where he was caught defending too deep the only negative.
5 MATT DOHERTY
Deserves some leeway for adjusting to an unfamiliar role and did make one good run forward but he didn’t do enough to worry Enda Stevens
5 CONOR HOURIHANE
He didn’t bring his club form into the game, and wasn’t really able to impact the match in the Georgian half. Capable of offering more than this.
4 CALLUM ROBINSON
Spoke honestly beforehand about his self-critical streak and he will know this was poor save for a spell just before the interval. Ineffective and called ashore early.
5 JAMES COLLINS
This was a struggle but, in mitigation, this was his competitive debut and he wasn’t given great service. But he struggled to make the ball stick.
5 SEAMUS COLEMAN
The skipper wasn’t quite on song, with some sloppy touches and limited enough impact in the opposition half. He will need to up it a gear for Tuesday.
7 JOHN EGAN
Unlucky not to score and did the basics well on a solid competitive debut. There should be no concerns in this area going forward.
5 GLENN WHELAN
He was unable to get Ireland ticking in the midfield department but he fulfilled his basic role in terms of protecting the back four, although it was a slow start.
5 JEFF HENDRICK
Another frustrating showing from the Burnley man who was bright in patches but drifted out of the game for spells and was moved to the right in the end.
4 JAMES McCLEAN
Effort levels high but application was poor and gave the ball away far too often under minimal pressure. Was perhaps fortunate to last the 90.
