Annual gala event offers family fun alongside four days of top-class racing

DAY ONE ST STEPHEN’S DAY, THURSDAY, DECEMBER 26

Racing on St Stephen’s Day at Limerick Racecourse is a longlastin­g tradition and it is the only place to be on December 26 to continue the festive celebratio­ns.

The Mr Binman Christmas Racing Festival provides the perfect opportunit­y to socialise with family and friends in the unique and magical atmosphere that can only be experience­d at Greenmount Park.

This is combined with the thrills and spills of a top class seven-race national hunt card showcasing some of Ireland’s finest equine talent for the ultimate day out.

The feature race of the day is the Matchbook Betting Exchange Novice Chase (Grade 1) race. The race, over a distance of two miles and three-and-ahalf furlongs, was won in 2018 by the Gordon Elliott trained Hardline and ridden by Keith Donoghue. After the races, you can enjoy great music with ‘Tiny Giants’ and don’t forget — children under 12 are free!

DAY TWO FRIDAY, DECEMBER 27

The second day of the Mr Binman Christmas Racing Festival gets underway from 12.25pm. The stage is set for a fabulous day on and off the track with another seven national hunt races which features the Grade 2 Lyons of Limerick Novice Hurdle. Don’t forget the ‘Tiny Giants’ will be on hand with more great music.

DAY THREE SUNWAY HOLIDAYS FESTIVE MOST STYLISH LADIES DAY, SATURDAY, DECEMBER 28

Off the track, the Sunway Holidays Festive Most Stylish Ladies Day is a firm favourite on the social calendar. This year the lucky winner will receive a sun holiday for two people to Turkey to include flights, transfers and accommodat­ion. Second prize is overnight accommodat­ion for two people in a Junior Suite in The Savoy Hotel Limerick with dinner in Hamptons Bar & Grill and a bottle of champagne. Third prize is a table for four people in the Panoramic Restaurant at Limerick Racecourse in 2020. 10 finalists will receive a €50 voucher for Phoenix V. The feature race on the card is the competitiv­e Grade B Tim Duggan Memorial Handicap Steeplecha­se.

DAY FOUR FAMILY FUN DAY, SUNDAY, DECEMBER 29

The fourth day of the 2019 Mr Binman Christmas

Racing Festival is Festive Family Fun Day starting from 12pm. A fitting finale to the festival, the tote floor is transforme­d into a children’s fun zone and it is a real family affair with a whole host of FREE children’s entertainm­ent combined with the thrills and spills of national hunt racing. The action on the track will include the Grade 3 Irish Independen­t Hurdle.
