Adam’s
There’s an eclectic mix of furniture, garden pieces, paintings, sculpture and jewellery at Adam’s At Home auction, which takes place on Sunday, July 5 at 11.30am. It includes a hilarious 18th-century painting of cherubs, (est. €1,200 to €1,800); a pair of Gothic revival oak chairs (est. €2,000 to €3,000) in the manner of Pugin; an ivory and gilt bronze model of a lady with bird and bird cage catalogued as “after George Omerth (1895-1925)” (est. €800 to €1,200). Mullen’s
The postponed Collector’s Cabinet auction at Mullen’s will finally take place on Saturday, July 11. It includes a 1990 edition of Error of Judgment: The Truth about the Birmingham Pub Bombings (1986) by Chris Mullin, the journalist whose championing of the case led to two appeals, in 1988, when the convictions were upheld, and in 1991, when they were quashed. This volume is signed by the Birmingham Six: Gerard Hunter, Patrick Joseph Hill, Dick McIlkenny, Hugh Callaghan, Billy Power, John Walker, and the author (est. €300 to €500).

Sotheby’s
The paintings that once graced the walls of the K Club, Co Kildare, will form the backbone of Sotheby’s annual Irish Art, which takes place in London on September 9 next. It will be preceded by a public exhibition, by appointment, at the RHA, Dublin, from August 27 to 30. Significant pieces include Louis le Brocquy’s Travelling Woman with Newspaper and Frederick William Burton’s A Blind Girl at a Holy Well (1839). These pieces come from the collection of Michael Smurfit and carry a collective low estimate of an impressive €2.9m.
