From the tailored skirt suits and faultless frocks, to the enormous sunglasses, headscarves and pillbox hats, Jackie Kennedy’s chic wardrobe inspired millions.

The socialite rose to fame as the First Lady of fashion and the stylish wife of President John F Kennedy.

One of the greatest fashion icons of the last century, her polished wardrobe has come to life again in a stunning biopic, Jackie, which has earned Natalie Portman a Best Actress nomination at tonight’s Academy Awards in LA.

Speaking about the role last year, Natalie told Marie Claire magazine: “She was criticised so much for her style – [then] the public became obsessed with her style. But she didn’t try to bow to anyone’s demands.

“She had confidence and became a style icon, just by being herself.”

During her first year in the White House in 1961, Jackie spent far more on her wardrobe than the $100,000 salary JFK earned as president.

To curb her spending she worked closely with designer Oleg Cassini to instead interpret looks from fashion houses such as Dior, Givenchy and Chanel.

The strawberry pink and navy trim collared Chanel-inspired wool suit that she wore when JFK was assassinated will remain one of her most remembered.

To get the Jackie look for less think classic and elegant pieces in vibrant colours.

We love the new spring/ summer 2017 collection from Savida at Dunnes Stores which is a nod to the fashion icon. Think Jackie-style statement coats such as the flare sleeve coat (€70) in bubblegum pink and the Crombie coat (€70), a great transitional piece for the nippy spring weather.

Recreate Jackie’s 1961 Paris look with the yellow flower lace coat (€70) and scallop hem dress, €40. Meanwhile, the Savida limited edition orange leather dress (€130) delivers a modern twist on an old classic. Channel your inner First Lady in powder blue, which was also the colour famously worn by current First Lady Melania Trump for husband Donald Trump’s inauguration, with the beaded cardigan (€40) and daisy patterned jeans, €35.
