George family finally get to say goodbye
Singer’s grave is next to his mum
THIS is the peaceful family plot where pop legend George Michael will finally be laid to rest, next to his beloved mum.
Lined with daffodils, it lay ready yesterday at Highgate Cemetery, North London.
A source said: “He will be buried here. Mum Lesley was George’s world so it is fitting that they should now be together.”
After an agonising wait for George’s body to be released, big sister Melanie, 55, is making arrangements.
Shrubs have been cut back. And space has been cleared for George, who died at 53. He regularly visited the plot, near his London home, after Lesley died of cancer at 60 in 1997.
Our source added: “It was very special. George made a big deal of Mother’s Day, he loved her so much and spent a lot of time talking to her there.”
The family are believed to be planning a memorial on, or close to Mothering Sunday, after a small private ceremony at the famous cemetery, where Karl Marx is buried.
George’s ex Kenny Goss, 58, and last lover, Fadi Fawaz, 43, who found George on Christmas Day, are both expected to go.
Hairdresser Fadi, left out of funeral preparations, was relieved this week when it was revealed George died of natural causes, with a fatty liver and heart disease.
George’s ex Kenny told last week how the star’s body “just gave up”. Spice Girl Geri Horner, 44, is expected to give a reading at the memorial service, where fans are expected to be able to pay tribute.
