Car’s out of control OWLS BOSS SENT TO STANDS

- By GRAHAM THOMAS at Villa Park

was only because I had left my technical area.

“I don’t want to talk about the red card because I never like to discuss decisions made by the referee.”

Villa boss Steve Bruce admitted: “The red card decision was gamechanging, there’s no doubt about that. That’s not normally like Carlos.

“At one point I didn’t think he was going to leave and it looked as if he wanted to hide in our dugout.

“I thought, ‘You’ve not really welcome in here’.”

Carvalhal’s lost plot took him away from the action just when his 10-man team needed their boss most.

The Owls had dominated most of the first half and controlled much of the second as their neat passing game had 11-man Villa chasing shadows.

But when the ball spun away from Sasso, the Frenchman went high on Hourihane and was shown a straight red.

Already trailing to Kodjia’s powerful first-half header from Hourihane’s cross, Wednesday still showed why they are in the play-off spots and Villa in distant mid-table.

Sam Winnall stabbed the ball wide and Jordan Rhodes blasted over, before Kodjia made them pay for those misses by rounding Wednesday keeper Keiren Westwood for his second after a slick assist from Albert Adomah.

Bruce added: “We have still got to be better with the ball and the big decisions went our way today.

“We could have made life easier, but our Achilles heel was there again. We had three chances to make it 2-0 before we did.

“We are a long way short of where we need to be, but there are small buds of recovery.” Possession Shots On Target Shots Off Target Blocked Shots Corners Fouls Conceded Offsides Yellow Cards Red Cards 44% 56% 3 2 6 6 0 5 5 4 9 7 4 4 3 1 0 1
