Daniel’s blub song has a lifelong fan in tears
Emotions run high as O’donnell sings pensioner’s favourite tune in B&B show
DANIEL O’donnell brought an old man to tears when he sang the OAP’S favourite song – his first hit.
The moving moment happened on the latest leg of Daniel & Majella’s B&B Road Trip when host Mary Corbett introduced the celebrity couple to her parents John and Bridget.
She asked her dad to name his favourite song and when he replied My Donegal Shore, Daniel immediately sang a rendition of the tune which made him famous in 1985.
An emotional John had tears in his eyes as he listened to the crooner in the Connemara Country Lodge in Clifden, Co Galway.
Mary said: “I was not expecting that reaction from Daniel.
“My daughter Stephanie was shocked to see dad with tears in his eyes. It was so moving.
“To have him in my kitchen singing for my elderly parents – I will treasure that memory for ever.”
But big-hearted Daniel didn’t stop there, repeating his performance the next morning in the B&B known as “the home of the singing breakfast” where Mary and daughters Stephanie and Olivia serenade their guests.
But this time it was Mary who had tears in her eyes.
She added: “When you have a dream to sing with your icon and suddenly not only do you get the opportunity but he actually comes and stays in your house, it is very emotional.
“It is a dream come true. I am just glad they enjoyed their stay and for me it is an experience of a lifetime.” Daniel and Majella will never forget it either.
The entertainment Mary lined up for them for the hit RTE show was an obstacle course in a bog.
Dressed in rubber suits, Daniel and Majella had to slide down into a muddy pool, wade through thick sludge before walking the plank with giant swinging bollards aimed at them.
The playful pair thanked Mary by covering her in mud. Their second B&B saw them travel to Galway where they were guests of Maurice and Marion Martyn at the Sea Mist B&B.
