17 shoppers injured after escalator fall

-

AT least 17 people have been injured after an escalator sped up and suddenly stopped sending shoppers crashing to the floor.

Witnesses reportedly said at least 14 women and three men lost their balance and rolled down the walkway at the mall.

The dramatic incident happened in Langham Place, Mong Kok, in Hong Kong yesterday.

Rescue workers rushed to the scene after the escalator, one of the longest in the city, suddenly stopped.

It’s understood some people managed to grab on to the handrail but one man suffered a head injury, police said.
