Fave plants to fire up gloomy corners

I need an evergreen that will work in a dark corner. Any suggestions please? – Daisy, Taunton, Somerset DAVID: If a plant isn’t right for shade, it won’t perform well. So I’d go for pyracantha, known as firethorn. With its white spring flowers and autumn berries in red, yellow or orange, it can improve an unloved corner. Or there are many types of ivy that do well in shady spots.
