CHRIS FROOME’S hopes of winning the Volta a Catalunya collapsed after the Team Sky ace lost 26 minutes on the sixth stage.

The three-time Tour de France winner (above) could not catch up to the lead group after an early split in the peloton during the 118-mile Tortosa to Reus stage.

The Brit, who started the day just 21 seconds behind leader Alejandro Valverde, lost out ahead of today’s final stage.
