Warriors in bonus territory

- BY EOIN MCINTYRE

SEAN LAMONT struck a mortal blow to Connacht’s top six hopes in the Pro12 as his late try gave Glasgow a bonus-point victory after they were dominated for long periods at Scotstoun.

Pat Lam’s side were totally on top for the first 40 minutes, but only led by two points at the half.

And after Finn Russell triggered Glasgow surge, they looked on the rack late on following a red card for Tim Swinson 15 minutes from time.

John Cooney appeared to have given Connacht hope with late penalty to put six points between the sides, but Lamont’s try saw Gregor Townsend’s team to the win as they pulled 12 points clear of Connacht in the battle for sixth. With an artificial surface and a dry ball to play with, Connacht looked right at home before the break, but tries from Niyi Adeolokun and John Muldoon (inset) was not a sufficient return for their dominance and they only led 15-13.

Ronaldson was on the mark after a great break from Tiernan O’halloran to put five between the teams.

But Russell crossed for Glasgow after 50 minutes and converted his own try to give Glasgow the lead again, and Ali Price danced over while Connacht were reduced to 14 players after Jack Carty’s sin-binning.

And late on Lamont ended Connacht’s hopes with his late try.
