Cod Army tied up by pressure

- By ALAN WILSON at Gigg Lane

UWE ROSLER warned his Fleetwood players to stop looking at the League One table after they dropped two crucial points at relegationthreatened Bury.

His promotion hopefuls have gone off the boil in recent games and backto-back goalless draws have sent them tumbling out of the automatic promotion places.

The injury-hit Cod Army are now six points behind second-placed Bolton.

And Rosler fears the pressure of the promotion race could be affecting his players.

“Both teams had a lot to play for and there was a lot of tension out there,” he said. “It is a human thing that when you are so close at the end of the season everybody tends to look at the table.

“Sometimes it’s not helpful. It is better not to look as we need to concentrate on how we play.”

While both sides would have preferred all three points for their battles at either end of the standings, a draw was a fair result.

Kyle Dempsey came closest to scoring for Fleetwood when he hit a post from the edge of the box with the last kick of the first half.

In the second period the nearest either side got to scoring was when Bury’s Jacob Mellis almost put the ball into his own net from a Dempsey corner.

Greg Leigh drew a decent save from Alex Cairns in the Fleetwood goal late on, but both sides had to settle for the draw that keeps Fleetwood unbeaten on the road since last November and edges Bury closer to survival having suffered just one defeat in their last eight games under boss Lee Clark.

Clark said: “It was a bit scrappy, but the old adage is if you can’t win then don’t lose and our fourth clean sheet in a row meant we did that.” Possession Shots On Target Shots Off Target Blocked Shots Corners Fouls Conceded Offsides Yellow Cards Red Cards 56% 44% 2 3 8 5 2 0 3 5 8 16 3 3 1 2 0 0
