ADAMS OUT FOR SLICE OF THE ACTION

- BY TOM HOPKINSON

NICOLA ADAMS wants to become Britain’s answer to US superstar Ronda Rousey.

The 30-year-old Rousey became the first female from her country to win an Olympic medal in judo when she claimed bronze in Beijing in 2008.

But she really made a name for herself on the back of that success, taking the world of mixed martial arts and UFC by storm.

After that Rousey (below) broke into Hollywood, with several roles including a cameo in the movie follow-up to the hit TV show Entourage, and an acting role in Furious 7, from the Fast and the Furious franchise.

The biopic Through My Father’s Eyes, which tells Rousey’s life story, will be released next month and she also has a role in Mark Wahlberg’s forthcoming film Mile 22, which is in pre-production.

Adams, boxing’s first female Olympic gold medallist, has made no secret of her desire to one day get into acting – although she wants to conquer boxing’s professional ranks first.

Having followed up her Olympic triumph at London 2012 with another victory in Rio last summer, Adams decided to turn pro.

And she is eyeing what she has referred to as the ‘Grand Slam’ — adding a world title to her haul — as she prepares to take her first steps in the paid game against Argentine fighter Virginia Noemi Carcamo at the Manchester Arena on Saturday.

Adams said: “I would love to be able to do something similar with women’s boxing to what Ronda Rousey has done with the UFC and headline my own shows and have big fights in Las Vegas.

“Ronda has done an amazing job for the UFC and taken it to a whole new level in the women’s game.

“In the UFC they have women headlining and they get paid just as much as the men do. I can definitely see myself in the next Hollywood blockbuster like her.”

Tickets for Saturday’s bout are available from £50 from eventim.co.uk and manchester-arena.com. The fight is also live on Boxnation and BT Sport.
