Varadkar is punters’ pick

LEO Varadkar’s odds of becoming the next Fine Gael leader have drastically shortened from 1/9 to 1/33.

Punters have been out in force showing their support for him to succeed Enda Kenny, backing the Social Protection Minister from 8/15 to 1/9 on Friday.

Simon Coveney continues his descent and has been eased out to 9/1, having drifted out to 5/1 from 6/4 on Friday.

The odds of Mr Varadkar being Taoiseach after the next General Election also dropped to 6/5 from 11/8.
