Chris reveals father’s loss to dementia

- BY DAVID COLEMAN

Chris & dad Ronnie FORMER Doctor Who star Christopher Eccleston has given a poignant interview about watching his father succumbing to dementia.

The actor spoke about the grim effects of the disease, including the moment his dad Ronnie, 83 – who died in 2012 – tried to throw him out of his home at Christmas as he didn’t recognise him.

He said: “He didn’t know who I was. He felt I was on his territory.

“Once my father was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2000, we realised he’d had the symptoms since 1997. So he lived with it for 15 years.

“My mum cared for him for 14 of those years, so I have first-hand experience of family members suffering the disease.”
