Fury as probe into Yvonne suspect ends

- BY STEPHEN HAYWARD

Yvonne Fletcher, 25 MURDERED WPC Yvonne Fletcher’s colleagues are furious after a police probe into a suspect was halted.

Officers say a prosecution has been blocked for “national security” reasons.

Saleh Ibrahim Mabrouk was held 18 months ago over the death of Yvonne, 25, who was shot policing a protest outside Libya’s London embassy in 1984.

It has emerged Theresa May did nothing to stop the case being dropped.

Yvonne’s colleague John Murray, who cradled her as she died, called the decision “a slap in the face”.

Colonel Gaddafi aide Mr Mabrouk was expelled from Britain after the death but returned in 2000, won asylum and gained a PHD in the oil industry.

His lawyers insist there is no evidence against him.
