Navy makes headway in South Asia

CHINESE navy ships are in Myanmar to conduct joint exercises with their counterparts in the state.

The Defence Ministry said the vessels arrived in Yangon on Thursday for a four-day visit to strengthen strategic communication and deepen co-operation.

The visit also aims to safeguard regional peace and stability and promote bilateral ties.

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations has already agreed a framework for a code of conduct to cover the disputed South China Sea.

It comes after Chinese President Xi Jinping met Nobel laureate Aung San Suu Kyi in Beijing.
