New deal for Pep...

- BY SIMON MULLOCK

MANCHESTER CITY want to open contract talks with Pep Guardiola.

The Catalan signed a three-year deal when he arrived at the Etihad last summer, but the belief at the club is that he now views the job as a much longer-term project after targeting a raft of the world’s best young players.

City have already spent £43million on Monaco’s 22-year-old midfielder Bernardo Silva since clinching a Champions League place last weekend.

And the Blues are now looking to wrap up deals for Benfica keeper Ederson and Monaco duo Fabinho and Benjamin Mendy.

That would take City’s summer spending spree past the £150m mark – and they also want Tottenham’s £40m-rated Kyle Walker.

And it is unlikely that the recruitment will stop there.

Guardiola is confident he can land Alexis Sanchez, despite Arsenal’s reluctance to let him quit the Emirates.
