Corrie gang rape so tough for my boyfriend to see

Lucy reveals impact of TV sex ring ordeal

CORONATION Street star Lucy Fallon’s boyfriend had to cover his eyes as her character was gang raped last week.

The actress, who plays Bethany Platt, said some of her family found the controversial sex ring story “difficult to watch”.

The teenage character has been horrifically exploited in the disturbing plot – and last week she was gang raped by evil Nathan and his sick pals.

And the 21-year-old also revealed that it was very hard for her partner to see it on the soap.

She told the Irish Sunday Mirror yesterday: “My boyfriend didn’t really watch it at first, but he watched it last week, which was probably one of the worst episodes he could have.

“Bethany was gang raped so it wasn’t a good episode for him to watch.

“Tom [my boyfriend] and my dad found it quite difficult to watch.

“Tom was kind of watching it behind a cushion.

“Obviously they know me so it’s quite hard for them. But they’re really supportive. The storyline is getting a lot of attention and we have been getting a lot of positive feedback. It has raised awareness about this issue and the public have been very supportive of it. “We did quite a lot of research and spoke to a lot of survivors of sexual abuse. “So when we’ve been filming it, even though some of the scenes have been quite hard, what I’m doing is nothing compared to what they go through every day. “Some days it can be difficult but I get to go home to my family and boyfriend and be normal.” Lucy also revealed she has had strangers approach her in the street to tell them about their own ordeals. Speaking at the launch of B’perfect Cosmetics’ arrival in Mccabe’s Pharmacy, in Dundrum Town Centre, Dublin, she said: “I was at a vigil for the Manchester attack victims and a girl came up to me and told me she had been sexually abused by her dad when she was younger. “She really appreciated what Corrie was doing. “It’s amazing that someone can come up and tell you their deepest, darkest secrets. “That’s what we wanted to do... to get people talking about it and coming forward.” news@irishmirror.ie
