Pubs set to open early as 40,000 fans arrive for GAA extravagan­za

This’ll be music to the ears of publicans who are set to have bums on seats and taps flowing for the majority of the day as fans follow their teams’ fortunes.

Originally, the applicatio­n for a special exemption asked for the pubs to be allowed to open at 10am but a compromise was made and 11am agreed upon.

Gardai yesterday confirmed the Co Kerry town’s boozers can open early for fans.

A spokesman said: “Yes, the pubs in Killarney will be open from 11am.”

It promises to be a bumper weekend for the GAA as attention will then turn from Kerry to Croke Park where a huge crowd is expected for the Leinster hurling

It is not the final many would have predicted with Davy Fitzgerald’s Wexford side continuing to punch above their weight but fans from Wexford and Galway will travel in their thousands.
