LYONS TALENTED CAMEL

- BY RYAN MCELLIGOTT

THE Ger Lyons-trained Camelback looked the best prospect on show at Naas yesterday where he landed a fascinating two-year-old conditions race.

Fresh from his victory in a Leopardstown maiden, Camelback took on two other last time out winners in Strike For Freedom and Rostropovich.

Camelback didn’t behave that well before the race, had to be trotted all the way to the start and he was a little restless in the stalls.

However, this didn’t impact on his talents as he made all the running for a length success over Strike For Freedom with the odds on Rostropovich third.

“His head just isn’t in the game but the fact that he was able to win shows that he obviously has an engine,” said Lyons (right).

“At home he’s very straight forward but I wasn’t happy with what I saw pre-race.

“He can’t do that if he’s to get to the next level and I’ll assess things with his owner in the coming days,” concluded Lyons.

Earlier Aidan O’brien took the wraps of a promising juvenile in Seahenge who made a winning debut in the six furlong maiden.

This Donnacha O’brienridden son of Scat Daddy was very green through the first half of the race but finished strongly over the last furlong to score by a neck.

The Ballydoyle team also landed the featured fillies handicap over six furlongs with the tough Music Box.

On her third start in eight days Music Box took charge of this race with a furlong to run and she defeated Miss Power by three parts of a length.
