- BY JOHN PATRICK KIERANS

THE son of one of three women killed in an horrific road smash said a tearful farewell yesterday to his loved ones.

Caoimhin O’neill, 13, survived the crash which killed his mother Mairead Mundy, 37, grandmother Margaret Mcgonigle, 69, and his mum’s 39-year-old best friend Racheal Battles.

He wrote on Facebook: “RIP Mammy, Nanny and Racheal. Fly high. God bless

GBNF (Gone But Never Forgotten).” The women died in a three-car pile-up on their way home from a dream holiday in Turkey at 12.30am on Friday.

They were making their way in two cars, which included Caoimhin and stepdad Padraig, back to their home village of Bruckless in Co Donegal when tragedy struck in Ardee, Co Louth.

Racheal’s six-year-old daughter, who was in the car with the women, was taken to Crumlin Children’s Hospital.

A 31-year-old man was also seriously injured. Caoimhin’s mum Mairead had been celebrating the first anniversary of her wedding to Padraig.

Her first husband Declan O’neill, Caoimhin’s dad, died in 2009.

Now the teenager, who has just made his Confirmation, has lost his mum and his beloved grandmother.

Dozens of people replied to his online farewell to them.

Katie Goddard wrote: “Stay strong cuz, you’ll get through this xx.”

The brave youngster replied: “Grand, sticking with it Katie.”

Lorna Lundy posted: “Caoimhin, our love and prayers are with you all xx.”
