■Creedon’s Shannon: RTE One, 6.30pm

You know it’s high summer and the Rose of Tralee isn’t far off when John Creedon is back on the box. In his latest offering he travels the full length of Ireland’s longest river, running over 360km and flowing through 12 counties. The threepart series looks at how the river has shaped and transformed the landscape and also influenced us as a nation. The affable Corkman sets out to explore how we have put our stamp on the Shannon through trade, infrastructure and culture and how it has shaped our way of life. Cruiser, barge, yacht and gandalow are just some of the means of transport John uses to navigate his epic journey travelling down river and through locks. The first episode sees him trying to locate the true source of the Shannon before being put to work with pick axe in hand as he visits the Arigna Mines on the shores of Lough Allen. Pat Mcmanus and his team of divers from the Athlone Sub Aqua club investigate an unknown ship lost to time on the bed of Lough Ree for many years.
