‘I can Tripp up Kyle’

- FROM STEVE BATES in Orlando

KIERAN TRIPPIER had to bide his time to get Kyle Walker’s Tottenham spot – now he wants his England shirt, too.

The 26-year-old defender endured months in Walker’s shadow at White Hart Lane, before finally emerging late last season.

A dream run of Premier League games for the stand-in right-back convinced boss Mauricio Pochettino he could cut Walker loose — and give Trippier the chance he has craved since joining from Burnley in a £3.5million deal in 2015.

Walker’s £54m departure to Manchester City helped to cue a new five-year deal for Trippier the day before Spurs flew out on their USA summer tour.

The ambitious star now has the 2018 World Cup in his sights after winning his first senior cap last month in England’s final friendly of the season in France.

Trippier said: “My dream was always to play for England.

“Now, getting that cap has just made me more hungry. The World Cup’s a viable target for me now.

“It’s been a difficult two years waiting patiently, but Walks has gone now — and I will grab my opportunity with both hands,” Trippier added.
