Jackett My NY blues...

- BY NEIL MOXLEY

Portsmouth v Rotherham Today 2.30pm

KENNY JACKETT has held up his hands over a disastrous 39-day stay in charge at Rotherham.

Pompey’s new boss is now enjoying a fresh lease of life having taken over the club that earned promotion from League Two under Paul Cook last term.

Cook returned to Wigan where he began his playing career, allowing Jackett to continue the rebuilding job at Fratton Park.

It is a chance Jackett intends to take after a horrible spell at the New York Stadium last autumn.

He failed to win a match and Rotherham were eventually relegated from the Championship. The former Wolves and Millwall boss admits: “It was the wrong move at the wrong time – and I take responsibility for that.

“It didn’t work out. I read people wrong and I read the situation wrong.

“Unfortunately, I had to move on and I moved on quickly. I have to concentrate on the job I have now and am pleased to have.”

Jackett was busy during the final week of the transfer window.

He brought in Damien Mccrory from Burton Albion, Stuart O’keefe and Matt Kennedy (both Cardiff) on loan and Oliver Hawkins from Dagenham.

Jackett added: “I felt that we needed to evolve from last season in terms of the age of the squad and age of the team.

“And while you’re doing that you must make sure you win football matches too.”
