Wood’s got measure of Boer flaws

-

BET that Chris Wood helps Frank de Boer walk the plank this afternoon.

It’s Sack Race Sunday in the Premier League, with Newcastle’s Rafa Benitez and Crystal Palace’s De Boer the hot fancies in the race for the cold shoulder.

In a game of tiny margins, De Boer’s got the early kick-off, at Fortress Burnley too.

After a brilliant era at Ajax, poor Frank’s been busy hinting that what happens in Amsterdam, stays in Amsterdam.

The new Crystal Palace boss’s main problem is the collective amnesia that seems to have taken a grip on Selhurst Park. On Valentine’s Day last season Palace were in the drop slots having taken 19 points from a possible 75. They doubled that points tally in the next eight games – and did it by throwing double-sixes.

They were not a better side than Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea, but they beat them.

There’s no evidence they are a better side than Burnley – and I’ve punted worse 5/2 shots than ‘Burnley win to nil’. Have half your stake there.

There is also evidence that Palace are potentially most vulnerable to attackers with height and heft – backing ‘Chris Wood anytime scorer’ at 19/10 (Unibet, 888, 32RED) is the day’s bright idea.

Clever Swansea have pulled off the trick of selling purebred goalhound Wilfried Bony for a fortune, then getting him back for buttons after he mysteriously turned out to be ‘no good’ for his new owners. It’s a old plot idea they got from an episode of Champion The Wonder Horse. Today’s visit of Newcastle might come too soon for Bony to be at his leanest or meanest, and a tight scrap is favoured – the OVER 3.5 cards at 9/10 (Bet365) looks fair enough with this referee. Longshot fans want in-form Toon sleeper Ciaran Clark ‘anytime’ at 14/1 (Bet365).
