Hat-trick hero Aguero stings Hornets as he closes in on City scoring record

- BY SIMON MULLOCK at Vicarage Road

PEP GUARDIOLA told Manchester City’s fans to prepare to party after seeing Sergio Aguero fire a hat-trick against the Hornets – taking him to within touching distance of the club’s goalscoring record. Aguero has now scored 175 goals for

City and needs just three more to

better the 79-year standard set by Eric Brook after a star performance in the 6-0 romp at Watford that took the Blues top of the Premier League in sensational style.

Guardiola (below) said: “Sergio only needs another three goals to get the record – and so it will be soon.

“Hopefully, we can have a good celebration in the stadium because he is a legend and a part of the club’s history.

“This is so good for him, he deserves so much credit.”

Gabriel Jesus and Nicolas Otamendi were also on target as City made it three wins, 15 goals and three clear sheets at home and abroad in the space of a week.

It was a stunning statement of intent by the Blues and Guardiola added: “We played really well. The way we played has made me so happy. We were in there, attacking right from the beginning, and it was a great performance. “We are so happy what we have done this week after Liverpool and in Rotterdam against Feyenoord.” Watford, who also went into the game with designs on going top, were powerless to prevent the rampant Mancunians from ripping their unbeaten start to the season to shreds. Hornets boss Marco Silva said: “City can do that to anyone because they are a great team. “But the first and the third goal were definitely offside and we should have also had a penalty. That is the truth.”
