‘Their fans’ confidence plays into our hands’
DIE-HARD DUB
THE confidence flowing from the Mayo side of the camp is exactly what Dublin fans want.
The men from the West will enter the game cocky, thinking they’re the betterprepared, battle-hardened side, and much more suited to the scrap than the untested Dubs.
But it’s easy for a jealous onlooker to say Dublin are untested – it’s much harder for them to swallow their pride and admit the Dubs have just been far too good to be tested.
Five challengers have stepped up and been knocked back down, and with each victory the Dublin dream marched on and the crushing reality for the rest of the country set in – Dublin are that good.
The pace of the players, the precision of the passing, the ruthlessness of the finishing and the youth in the legs blended with the experience of the best leadership in the country. It’s a perfect storm. Mayo are like a fighter that gets into the ring to put on an entertaining bout – smiling and posing for the crowd, maybe giving a few selfies too.
They draw you in, but they come up against the best prizefighter in the land and get put on their backside in a few moments.
The Dublin team is that prizefighter – ruthless, effective, and simply untouchable at their craft.
And come this evening, expect the green and red to have put up their best fight, and be swatted away by the best.
To coin a phrase from Floyd Mayweather himself – Mayo simply aren’t on Dublin’s level.
