Brother beyond
Dancing is a new world to me... it’s a bit nerve-wrecking, like starting school all over again JAKE CARTER ON HIS STINT ON DANCING WITH THE STARS
DANCING With The Stars hopeful Jake Carter has admitted he hopes his stint on the RTE series will show people he’s more than just Nathan Carter’s little brother.
The 19-year-old pop singer from Liverpool is the youngest celebrity dancer in this year’s series which kicks off tonight.
Show producers had originally targeted country sensation Nathan, 27, but his touring schedule prevented him taking part in the show and Jake was put forward instead.
Speaking to the Irish Sunday Mirror, Jake said: “People always ask, ‘Do I get fed up of being known as Nathan Carter’s brother?’
“Obviously I’d like to be known as Jake, but I wouldn’t change anything for the world because he’s helped me so much with my own career.
“I wouldn’t be where I am without him. He’s given me the contacts so I could write my own songs and get into a studio and release my own music.
“Obviously there are positives and negatives. People will always say you’re just Nathan’s brother but I just take it on the chin.
“It doesn’t phase me. Hopefully people will like me for who I am. I am different, I’m not doing country music.”
It’s been a whirlwind 12 months for the rising star who launched his music career last April and then moved into his Wagon Wheel hitmaker brother’s house in Co Fermanagh two months later.
Fresh from his debut panto season as Aladdin in Belfast’s SSE Arena, the multi-talented teen is now performing in the highly-anticipated second series of DWTS with partner Karen Byrne. Jade added: “Nathan was asked to do the first and this series but he’s too busy touring. They asked me this year. At first I was apprehensive as I only moved over to Ireland six months ago. “Dancing is a whole new world to me and it’s a bit nervewracking, like starting school all over again, which wasn’t that long ago for me either. “I’m glad I jumped at it because I’m loving life at the minute and what a great way to start the year.” The budding popstar said his family are flying over from England to support him tonight as he tackles the salsa with Karen. He said: “I think Nathan is coming to week three. He’ll probably be the one throwing tomatoes to put me off for a bit of craic.” After weeks of gruelling rehearsals, Jake said
he still feels he has been thrown in at the deep end.
He added: “The salsa is all about the hips and being sexy. I have to take control of the dance which is hard in week one. I have to lead Karen around the dancefloor.
“There’s a couple of lifts so touch wood it goes well on the night.”
Dancing With The Stars airs on RTE One tonight at 6.30pm with Can’t Stop Dancing on Thursdays on RTE2 at 9.30pm.
