Hatton: It is Groves by a nose

- BY NEIL MOXLEY

RICKY HATTON believes the devil will not be in the detail next Saturday night – but instead standing in George Groves’ corner.

The former World Champion admits to being torn when making a prediction ahead of Saint George’s battle with Chris Eubank Junior in Manchester.

Hatton has given Groves the edge in the semi-final of the World Boxing Super Series event – but claims he does so because of the expertise of Shane Mcguigan in the Londoner’s corner.

Mcguigan’s forged a formidable reputation for himself, although Hatton admitted that it could be “the right time” for Eubank Junior to step out of his father’s shadow.

Speaking at the launch of ULTIMATE BOXXER, a new online platform for talented pro-boxers to build their profile and show everyone what they are about, Hatton said: “A few years back, I didn’t rate Eubank Jr.

“But his last couple of performances have made me take a look at that one again.

“I watched his early fights and thought, ‘You’re not doing it for me’.

“But I have seen a couple of his recent ones and, I’ll be honest, I thought he looked the real deal.

“If you look at George, he has boxed better opposition, a much better calibre of opponent.

“I’m just going to go with Groves.

“He has a very good trainer – and I don’t know who Eubank’s trainer is. I’m not being disrespectful – is it his dad? It is very important who stands in your corner.”
