JAMES’ MUM PLEA

She demands answers on why killer Venables was freed to offend again

- BY KAREN ROCKETT

Denise Fergus

Denise Fergus wants a public inquiry into exactly what officials knew when they released murderers Venables and Robert Thompson in 2001.

Denise says she has only just learned the extent of two-year-old James’ sexual injuries after years of being unable to face the full horror. She believes the parole board did not know all the facts.

Her calls for a public inquiry were rejected by the UK government last week but Denise is pleading for a U-turn.

Today the Sunday Mirror is urging Condom outfit Lass in paddling pool Colourful frock readers to sign her petition – already backed by nearly 200,000 people.

Denise said: “Releasing Venables was a massive mistake. Both should have served time in an adult prison. I want to know on what basis the parole board considered they were rehabilitated.” MP George Howarth is backing her call and says the family deserve answers. He said: “They need responses from the Justice Secretary and other relevant agencies.”

Her solicitor Sean Sexton has compiled 14 questions he says remain unanswered, such as why experts missed Venables’ interest in child abuse until his conviction for extreme child porn in 2010.
