Dubs put down by Limerick

- BY DARAGH SMALL

Limerick 1-26 Dublin 0-17

SEAMUS FLANAGAN starred as Limerick made it three from three in Division 1B of the NHL with victory over Dublin at the Gaelic Grounds.

Aaron Gillane scored 1-9 before he was taken off but it was another brilliant team effort from John Kiely’s side who are set for a massive decider with Galway at Pearse Stadium next month.

Dublin were disappointing and despite six points from Donal Burke’s frees, and another five from Danny Sutcliffe, they limped to a second loss of the campaign.

Limerick had wins over Laois and Offaly in the opening rounds since they secured the Munster Hurling League title.

Dublin had a dreadful start to the campaign when losing to Offaly but edged out Antrim in Round 2.

The hosts started well and Tom Morrissey was involved in everything they did right in the opening stages. He scored two points and drew the foul for Gillane’s first free in the sixth minute.

Dublin stayed in it but the crucial score arrived in the 23rd minute, when Barry Murphy was hauled down by Alan Nolan for a penalty.

Gillane stepped up and rifled to the bottom right corner and Limerick had a 1-9 to 0-5 lead.

They went on to lead 1-13 to 0-7 at the interval and while Dublin scored first in the second-half through Burke, Morrissey and Flanagan excelled as Limerick pulled clear.
