Harry & Meghan face protesters Sheridan goes for stroll as she readies for tour Royal security chiefs will draft in the crack guard in a footman’s uniform to counter fears of an attack at the ceremony – which could be watched by more than a billion on TV worldwide. A source said: “It’s an unusual step, but they need somebody right on their shoulder who can act immediately.” The measures follow an anthrax scare when white powder – which turned out to be harmless – was sent to the couple at St James’s Palace last month. Anti-monarchy protestors are threatening chaos by dressing up as homeless people along the procession Belongings are all packed up Edward and Sophie’s wedding route in Windsor on May 19. And 2,640 members of the public being invited to Windsor Castle during the St George’s Chapel ceremony will add to the risks.

The source said: “People in charge of Jokes are shared as van is loaded security aren’t taking any chances. It’s going to be a huge event, they can’t be too careful. The anthrax scare confirmed they must pull out all the stops.”

Public guests will be vetted. But once the wedding carriage leaves the castle grounds, armed undercover cops will be on the ground, mingling with crowds.

The procession will look similar to Prince Edward’s 1999 nuptials, with two footmen sitting behind the couple.

Met Police and Royal aides declined to comment on security as it was revealed Meghan and the Queen will attend their first engagement together at the March 12 Commonwealth Day service.

alan.selby@mirror.co.uk UK pubs have been given the green light to stay open to 1am on Friday, May 18 and Saturday 19 to celebrate the wedding.
