You SIXY things!
IRELAND 28 .... SCOTLAND 8
IRELAND have claimed Six Nations glory for the first time in three years after beating Scotland in Dublin.
Joe Schmidt’s warriors have 10 points to spare over second-placed England after claiming a 28-8 bonus point victory over the Scots.
The Fields Of Athenry rang out from the ecstatic Irish fans in the Aviva Stadium as the clocked ticked out.
Ireland could pick up the Grand Slam for the first time in nine years as they face old enemy England at Twickenham on St Patrick’s Day. Heroes Jacob Stockdale bagged two tries and Rob Kearney was crowned man of the match.
Double king Stockdale said: “The ball just kept bumping up my way.
“I felt I got myself in quite a good defensive position to get the intercept, and Garry gave me a really good pass to give me the best chance to finish it. Fans will do us a favour and make it a wee bit easier now going over to Twickenham.”
Ireland’s fourth victory of the campaign secured the five championship points they wanted.
Victory over Scotland meant England needed a five-point win in Paris to have any chance of catching Ireland, but they slumped to a 22-16 defeat at the Stade de France.
Schmidt said: “I thought they made it very tough for England to get any fluidity. I’m really going to enjoy tonight. I’ve given the players the day off tomorrow to recover.
“They’ll be quiet tomorrow and we’ll be excited to get to Twickenham and have the chance we have.
“You don’t get it very often so we certainly won’t be holding back.”
IRELAND are on course for Grand Slam glory after winning the Six Nations by stunning the Scots in Dublin.
A win over England next week would cap off a tremendous tournament for Joe Schmidt’s team.
We’re hoping they’ll make it a famous five from five.
