OAP in fake water worker knife ordeal

- BY CORMAC O’SHEA

AN elderly woman was robbed at knifepoint by men pretending to be Irish Water workers.

The incident happened at a house in South Dublin at 1.45pm on Thursday.

The 88-year-old victim answered her door in Lavarna Grove, Terenure, to two men who claimed to be there to check water pressure.

After letting them in she was threatened with a knife before they fled with a small amount of cash.

The woman was left frightened but uninjured.

With supply restrictions in place it is thought the men may have taken advantage of there being Irish Water workers in the area. Gardai are investigating but no arrests have been made.
