Motty to give last live radio commentary
JOHN Motson will deliver his final live commentary for the BBC today – 48 years after he first picked up the microphone.
The 72-year-old will cover Arsenal vs Watford for Five Live at lunchtime.
Motson, known to his many fans as Motty, gave his first radio commentary for Everton vs Derby in December 1969.
In an extraordinary career, the legend has covered 10 World Cups, 10 European Championships, 29 FA Cup finals and more than 200 England games.
He said: “I was lucky to be there, fortunate enough to witness some of the biggest moments in football history mere yards away from the action.”
Motson will still appear on Match of the Day until the end of the season.
