Dad helped me deal with my depression after I got pregnant

Frank Bruno’s daughter on his support

-

Bobby, bride Rachel and legend Frank Rachel now copes with pregnancy and sleeping more than I’ve ever slept before. Every time I spoke about it people just said, ‘Well you’re pregnant, it’s a blessing, stop moaning’. “Obviously I am so grateful – there are a lot of women out there who can’t have kids – but it was really hard.” The issue made things tough for her and Bobby, a maintenance firm director. She said: “He can still drink and have fun so it was separating us a bit and strained our relationship.”

As the New Year began, Rachel hit the gym in a bid to get her mental health back on track.

She does weight-training, yoga, pilates, uphill-walking and gym classes four or five days a week.

And she has coupled that regime with a healthy diet featuring porridge, muesli, yoghurt, nectarines and fish – while still Frank was huge help for Rachel allowing herself the odd weekend takeaway. She added: “I’ve watched documentaries on postnatal depression and it scares me. But I’ve got such a good support network so hopefully I will be okay. Bobby has been amazing.

“And most importantly I’ve learned to love my look and embrace my curves.”

Frank Bruno works with the Sunday Mirror on our Time To Change mental health campaign aiming to smash stigma. You can follow Rachel on Instagram at bruno_fitness
