Breffni go clear with home win

CAVAN’S true blues left Down marching to a lament at Kingspan Breffni after an all-action division two clash.

Against a Down side that wouldn’t lie down, Mattie Mcgleenan’s side crucially out-scored their opponents by 0-4 to 0-1 in the final 10 minutes.

Down will rue three giltedged goal chances which they spurned at key times either side of the interval.

Cavan ‘keeper Raymond Gallagher smartly diverted Connaire Harrison’s daisy-cutter around his post before the break.

Down supremo Eamonn Burns was remanded by ref O’sullivan as tempers erupted at teh interval.

Even with the breeze at their backs, Cavan laboured to eat into their opponents’ half-time lead (0-7 to 0-6).

Ruairí Wells made it 0-13 apiece with eight minutes left but Cavan sub Seanie Johnston ignited a winning run to the chequered flag.
